Quick Fishing Update - January 24th
Winter fly fishing conditions are upon us, which means you must do some searching for open water. There is plenty of good fishing below Stagecoach reservoir and if you strap on some snow shoes you can access many BLM areas, such as Sarvis Creek. We have snow shoes available to rent at Straightline. Though there is no shortage of fantastic flies that work in the winter months, we do recommend some patterns that we will almost always have on the water during the winter.
- Zebra Midge, sizes 18-24
- Blood Midge, sizes 18-24
- Tungsten Zebra Midge, sizes 18-24
- Egg Patterns, sizes 14-16. Try using yellow or chartreuse.
There is not much dry fly action this time of year, so we recommend trying some of the above suggestions. For more fly recommendations, please feel free to contact us or stop in the shop and speak with one of our guides!
Most of the Yampa running through town is frozen over, however you can try your luck further downtown near 13th street. However, for very productive winter fishing come fish with us on our private waters, Whispering Willows and Kuntz Ranch.
