The city of Steamboat Springs announced Wednesday afternoon that it will enact a commercial and voluntary closure of the Yampa River beginning at 12:01 a.m. Thursday. With what could have been our last big winter cold pop behind us, spring fishing is right around the corner. The Yampa River through and above town is a great opportunistic fishery right now. These warmer weeks can yield open stretches and eager fish! With most trout holding in the deepest slowest water, they are not hard to find. Nymphing, Streamers, and even some quality midge dry fly fishing, have all been productive recently. We are in one of the best times of year to sleep in and still enjoy a great afternoon bite.
