The Fly Report: May 30th

The fishing conditions are improving as water level has peaked. Many rivers are still in full run off and running dirty, however with colder temperatures in the forecast we will see water go back down and clear. The tailwaters of Stagecoach reservoir have been fishing great! The Yampa river is still high, but it is dropping on a daily basis and becoming more fishable every day. In the next week to ten days the fishing through town on the Yampa should be fishing great!

Hot Flies: Stoneflies and Pale Morning Duns (PMD Mayflies) should be hot for the next two weeks or so.

General Tips for Spring Fishing: Be prepared for rapid changes in the weather and water conditions any day that you head out on the river. Pack an extra layer (or two) for any trip but especially float trips. There isn’t a real urgency to get out on the water early in the morning because of cold overnight temps which mean that the activity starts in the late morning and early afternoon. Right now is a great time to book wade trips and float trips for the busy summer months. Contact us today about a trip!
