Snow Report for 3.12.21

Winter isn’t over with us just yet! Significant snowfall is expected to hit Steamboat Friday night through Monday morning. Expect mixed weather today through Saturday morning with intermittent sunshine and snow showers. Temperatures are forecasted to stay between the mid-twenties and low-thirties. Sunday, March 14 we could be seeing up to 8 inches of snow and a possibility of 19 inches total of snowfall over the next five days.

With the weather warming up, you might be interested in skipping the lift lines and resort crowds for some spring alpine touring. The Colorado backcountry is some of the best in the world and even if you’ve never been before it’s worth checking out what it has to offer.

If you don’t have the equipment, you can expect to pay upwards to $2,500 for a new setup. That’s a lot of money and a big commitment. Rather than invest in a new setup, Straightline offers an alpine touring rental package for $50/day. The package includes skis, boots, poles and skins.

It’s important to know before you go. Make sure you have the right equipment and check out the backcountry avalanche forecast. And do not go alone. If it is your first time skiing the backcountry go with someone who is experienced and familiar with the area.

That being said, be smart and know your risks.

Steamboat is currently at 82 percent of the 30 year average snowfall. We’re looking forward to another powder day in Ski Town USA.
